Happy New Years, everyone! Here are three more platinum summaries!

Well, took a dang long time and consumed the remainder of 2016, but I swore I'd squeeze out at least one more platinum trophy from my game systems before the ball dropped on that year, sooooooo...

#43 - Hitman GO: Definitive Edition

Not a big fan of the Hitman games, but this platinum was really easy to do if you follow a guide giving every solution to every puzzle. Only a few trophies were not in a guide but you can get them very easily. I did fail a couple of puzzles because I wasn't reading the solution right, but that's a typical thing to go for. And it was cheap: $7.99 on the PSN store. :)

#44 - inFAMOUS: Second Son
Placeholder, but I felt sort of the same way after going through Expert Mode and getting sniped a LOT.

For the record, I had not expected to touch this series. Yes, it's an exploration-based adventure game where you power your character up and get collectibles and whatnot, but the whole place was... not my style. The whole idea of Conduits didn't really stick with me. I think it's because the first two inFAMOUS games were so bad that Second Son was hard to grasp. But I needed a game starting with the letter "I" for my PIKACHU project and the only other options were Invizimals(which is dopey) and... ICO. X(

Luckily, I found a Let's Play by that master of comedy, kalonZombie. His voice is hilarious and he makes even a dark gritty game like this one feel light and hilarious with his guest commentators. He also did the Ratchet and Clank series, and that made him one of my top Youtuber Let's Players in my honest opinion. (He is just finishing up a Let's Play of the Ratchet and Clank: The Movie: The Game for PS4 and he's still got it.)

Another thing I despise about games like this are you have to go through both evil and good karma paths to get 100%, which I hate. I do not love being evil and bloodthirsty, and having to kill innocent civilians is a sin which I fear for my soul. But I got through it super-fast and just went to healing the innocents instead. ^_^

Great game, might try First Light as I love Fetch. ;)

And finally...

#45 - Adventures of Mana

(I love the way that Sumo is about to be crushed by a rock. ^_^)

A faithful remake of the original Game Boy game Final Fantasy Adventure for the PS Vita. I didn't realize what it was until I started playing it. I got through it with the help of the Mana Relay race by RPG Limit Break and compared the games. It's amazing. I couldn't do it all in one go as there are four trophies that require hours of real life grinding. Also missed a weapon after going through Dime Tower and had to redo Dime Tower after picking up the Demon Axe.

But all in all, an easy game and fun. I think I only died once. ;)

That's it for 2016! Happy New Years to everyone reading this and may 2017 be filled with more platinums. I intend to get my 50th soon. :D

#42: Dragon Quest Builders

On this day five years ago, the Playstation Vita came out in Japan. In honor of that, I made my next platinum be a game which is part of the most popular RPG franchise in Japan... Dragon Quest! ^_^

Happy birthday, PS Vita, and may the light be your guide. :)

The PIKACHU Project

As you readers may know, I tend to be... distracted a lot when going for platinums and end up forgetting about my goals until it's too late to do anything about them.

NO MORE. I have a flawless plan to get at least seven platinums in the next three months and it's...

PIKACHU.

Yeah, you heard me right. I will be platinuming seven games in a thing I call "The PIKACHU Project." Here's how it will go down:
  1. I will start playing the games at December 15, because the first three games were part of the Winter Backlog event in PSNProfiles.com.
  2. I will do these in order - I'll start with the first game and not play the other games until I get 50% or more of the trophies in the first game. By doing this, I will not be distracted by the other games and get all the games progressing at a decent pace.
  3. The names of the games will start with the letters that, if they were lined up in order, would spell "PIKACHU." I plan on doing this project for other Pokemon in the future. 6_^
  4. The project is complete once the last game gets its platinum.
Wish me luck! It took me a while to get the games, but here they are! I'll be reporting my progress every week or so.
  1. Putty Squad (PS4)
  2. inFamous: Second Son (PS4)
  3. Knack (PS4)
  4. Adventures of Mana (Vita)
  5. Claire: Extended Cut (Vita)
  6. Hitman GO: Definitive Edition (Vita)
  7. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Remastered (PS4)

Oops...

My apologies. I have not updated this blog for a few months, but I was... distracted. I promise that I'll get up the most recent platinums here ASAP.

Dragons and Questing, what more can you ask for? :D

Starting up a new thread in the PSN Profiles forum for those who want to finish this great game 100%. :)

Some screenshots I got for the thread.

Platinum Rain Day #3!

Well, it's that time of year, when Dragon-Archon pulls out the corks for the third round of Platinum Rain Day. While I strongly suggest you go HERE to see what it's all about, the short version is this:
  • You declare ten games which must have a Platinum trophy.
  • You complete all but the final trophy that would make the Platinum be claimed.
  • You hold off getting those trophies until the thread's deadline, then get all the platinums in the course of 24 hours.
I completed the first Platinum Rain Day event on my old account and attempted to do the second but things and life got in the way. So hopefully I will do better this year. I made a few mistakes about trying to platinum the Kingdom Hearts games when they had few trophies. I won't make that mistake again. But anyways, here is the list of games I am going for in the next few months:
  1. OKAGE: Shadow King (PS2 Classic)
  2. Dragon Quest Heroes
  3. Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengance
  4. Rogue Galaxy (PS2 Classic)
  5. Psychonauts (PS2 Classic)
  6. Ratchet and Clank (reboot)
  7. Ratchet and Clank 2 HD
  8. Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time
  9. Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus
  10. LEGO Dimensions

Whoo! We did it! ^_^

It finally is, Umbopa. It finally is...

The final trophy - S-Rank victory. I was defeated by the Supreme Sage because the Sage of Ages' Magitech armor kept spamming Heat Ray and forcing Esther to heal everyone so she ran out of MP and I couldn't keep up - Gold Drongo was defeated but Gold Mite's Cut Loose and Gold Hurly's Sling Stone finished us off. The second time was little better - Oliver was defeated and the others had to finish things off. Luckily, the Round 3 wasn't as bad and I only used one Astra in that fight. I then spammed Thunderstorm in the final round to take out Gold Drongo and had my own Mite take out the Gold Hurly before Oliver was KO'd. The rest of the round was spamming All-Outs while running around with Swaine to avoid Gold Mite's attacks. Luckily Esther had enough to keep Swaine alive and lots of green glims dropped and a couple of bluesys, so Swaine was able to Sureshot for win.

There she is, my first Summer Backlag game platinum. ^_^ I named the familiar I got, the Mandragorer, NEVERAGAIN - I am finished with this game.

Here is my progress if you are interested.

Summer Backlog Update (August 3)

Well, Ni No Kuni is getting to the end of the long tunnel of darkness - I've maxed out the levels of all three characters(I am not training Swaine's brother, sorry, he comes in too late) and their primary familiars(the Mite for Oliver, a Meowy-Bogey for Esther and a Puss-in-Boats for Swainer) and finally got the Familiarologist trophy a few minutes ago, the last familiar being an Underiper Buncher.

That leaves just two obstacles to the Platinum: The Solosseum S-Rank(which I failed last time) and getting those remaining alchemizations to get Mad Scientist. I've gotten 2/3 of the alchemy recipes crafted and I know I need about 90% to get the 120 unique items. The problem is that I am going to have to craft items which require rarer and rarer materials. :(

Also, while house-sitting last week, I managed to get a couple more trophies for R&C3 and I got a ton of trophies since the last update, so here are the scores so far:

69% (10 trophies remaining)

82% (2 trophies remaining)

60% (10 trophies remaining)

 69% (7 trophies remaining)

67% (11 trophies remaining)

I'll probably be spending the weekend on Okage and R&C reboot to knock out more trophies, but I'll definitely be working hard to platinum Ni No Kuni and get the other games up to snuff. Ciao! ;)

Backlog update

So here are the current stats for my Summer Backlog challenge. It's come a long way since I first posted in the beginning...

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix - 57% (12 trophies remaining)

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch - 73% (3 trophies remaining)

Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal HD - 65% (9 trophies remaining)

Ratchet and Clank for PS4 - 34% (23 trophies remaining)

Okage: Shadow King (PS2 Classic) - 31% (15 trophies remaining)

So right now I have to focus on the last two to get them to my July Goals for 2/3 trophy completion. I have plans of attack for doing so and will get right on them after this post is up on the blog.

By evenly working on each game, I don't get too overwhelmed. However, since a couple of games are reaching a point where I could quickly get the remaining trophies, I might go back to them from time to time. In the meantime, I think I can get my Backlog Challenge done by the end of August. Ciao!

What sort of joy should I experience?

My sister has a blog about her quilting experiences, which I link to with this link if you are interested. I am also a bit interested in trying a crafting hobby and found out there is a stained-glass studio a mile from my apartment. After seeing the beautiful stained glass floors in the Dive into the Hearts in the Kingdom Hearts series, I am intrigued at making similar beautiful displays of glass.

But one thing I read on a recent post in my little sister's blog got me thinking about my current lifestyle and how bad it is right now:

"I think I will find more joy in making quilts out of the fabrics that bring me the most joy than just keeping them there to look pretty on a shelf."

This was after she talked about giving away fabrics that she wasn't using. And to me I realized that maybe I was not utilizing my games to the fullest potential.

I just downloaded Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars for my Vita, but I am having second thoughts about playing this game. After all, buying new games when you haven't platinumed your old games is a bit of a waste. You're just avoiding the old games.

And I think the reason I hate the old games is because they aren't fun anymore. I'm slowly getting the trophies I need for my Summer Backlog challenge... but... it's not really fun anymore. I only have three more trophies for Ni No Kuni... but two of them require a ton of fights just to get the stuff you need to evolve monsters and craft items. I know I only have 1/3 of the items for Mad Scientist because half of the list requires insanely rare drops or steals from monsters. The third is the ultimate arena rank battle, which is very hard to win at my level.

Then there are the Ratchet and Clank games which have a bunch of annoying things. Ratchet and Clank 2 will require some insane ring races, Ratchet and Clank 3 Challenge Mode is already started, and I haven't even gone back to the reboot on PS4 yet.

Then there's Okage, which has lost its charm. I'm close to halfway through the game, but I have to deal with semi-random encounters and you can't flee all the time as you run out of magic power to do so. Add to the list of games three Disgaea titles(which are insane as they are) and Digimonstory. And then there's Wizard101 and Kingdom Hearts Unchained X and Pokemon Y...

As you can tell, I have a lot on my platter and I'm getting crushed with it!

My sister Anna has put things into a bit of perspective for me. The reason I don't want to have a job is because it will take away free time, and I need every minutes of every day to do gaming... but I'm not in the mood to game so I waste my life watching Youtube videos. I need to figure out what to do.

The most important thing I need to do: Get those Platinum Trophies so I can kick the games to the curb and make room for new games and that means I have to avoid buying anything new until I am done with what I have. So I do plan on getting the platinums!

I apologize for the rant, but I need to get this off of my chest. Expect new updates when I get the platinums. Ciao for now!

I'm back in Kalos!

Back in the Pokesaddle!
I learned one thing over the past year - don't throw away something you know could be fun in the future if it's not fun now... especially if you aren't getting a good deal for it.

I stupidly traded in my Nintendo 3DS I got as a birthday present years ago just because I thought I could get some money for Playstation games. I was wrong, I got only $20 for it because of a damaged control stick. :(

And I got rid of all my Pokemon games, but luckily for me the Nintendo 2DS(which is just a 3DS stripped of its 3D technology) was on sale and I managed to save up enough to buy it on sale(for $79.99) thanks to some money I had saved from dog-sitting. Then I traded in all of my old 3rd-generation Pokemon games and got $80 for it in credit... so I got a new copy of Pokemon Y.

Why is this important?

I NEVER MISS A POKEMON DEBUT!

Yep, the next generation of Pokemon, Pokemon Sun and Moon, is coming out this holiday season.

And so, to celebrate my return to Pokemon at long last, I am doing a Psychic-type monotype run through the game using Delphox, Gardevoir, and Malamar as my top battlers with Medicham and others close behind. (I intend to get a Staryu and Exeggute to fill out the team with a Sigilyph to help with the Flying.) I also caught my first Shiny(a Shiny Drifloon) and got an event Manaphy(which is max Level so it's pretty much a DIY project, but I don't intend to use it on my team for the main story) so I am pretty happy. :)

Before you say a word: No, that doesn't mean I've stopped trophy hunting. Indeed, I'm working on Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep Final Mix right now. (What a mouthful!)

Yes, there are Heartless!

Just wanted to confirm that Aqua's reports do get the enemies in the Secret Episode, but it doesn't count towards the Adventurer: Aqua trophy. At 18% in KHBBSFM right now.

Short update

I didn't have issues with glitchy invisible chests, thank goodness
That photo above is one of the trophies I got for meeting my June Goal with Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. A great game but the trophies did not start popping until halfway through the game. Anyways, with 35%(a little over the goal but since I've got to do some level grinding), that makes three games in my June Goal of 1/3 of the trophies obtained.

Off-topic speedrun rant

Since there are no updates right now, and KHBBSFM(guess what the acronym means, I'm too lazy right now to type the whole thing out) is one of the games for my Summer Backlog Challenge, I decided to go on a bit of a rant about Birth By Sleep...

Now, I don't hate the game, it's beautiful and easy to get into and has the least painful hardest difficulty(I actually got the Critical Mode trophy for beating every story on that insane difficulty) because skills and traits like Once More and Second Chance can be broken to appear early so your characters don't die from the insane power of the Critical mode enemies... buuuuuut, facts:
  1. The game has three characters you play as.
  2. Each character has their own story.
  3. How equally divided are the Critical mode speedruns of these characters?
(Jeopardy theme plays)

Time's up! The answer?

Aqua: The St. Joan de Arc of Female Protagonists in Gaming ;)
TOTALLY UNBALANCED 100/1 IN TERMS OF ZERO CRITICAL RUNS FOR THE BOYS

Yep, while KH1 and KH2 have insane difficulty Level 1 Runs, BBS is a whole 'nother mess of worms considering that the ONLY female protagonist is the ONLY run which would be close to sub one hour. And that's because the programmers completely DESTROYED their own Critical Mode difficulty thanks to that very mechanic that makes it possible to have a character never gain EXP for the entire game. Let me explain:

In the Kingdom Hearts games, you equip passive skills like equipment. These abilities have a variety of beneficial effects like allowing you to pick up items from farther away, boost your combo count, and so forth. HOWEVER, there is one passive skill that you get for free if you play on the most painful difficulty of the Final Mix games(this ability does not exist in the original versions of those games)... EXP Zero, short of Experience Zero.

It does what it says on the tin: Once you equip it, you stop gaining any battle experience. That means, if you can equip it as soon as you gain your first access to the menu, Sora and his two Disney goons(or in BBS, one of the trio) remain at their initial level for the entire game. Needless to say, this was done to give a challenge. When you are stuck at Level 1 for your entire adventure, your stats become pointless once you reach a certain point since the enemies have defense that you cannot break and damage that pierces your puny defenses.

Of course, this was a problem that the developers realized needed to be fixed. After all, nobody would use this ability if they couldn't even beat the first boss at Level 1! Thus, when the first EXP Zero, for the original Kingdom Hearts, was created, the programmers added in some passive buffs to make it so you weren't playing Dark Souls: Kingdom Hearts edition:
  • When equipped with EXP Zero and your character has gained no experience beforehand, as in the very beginning of the game, Sora gains the Second Chance ability(Once More did not exist in the first game).
  • Damage storage
And this second thing, damage storage, was what smart gamers exploited to make getting through the game in sub four hours at Level 1(not deathless though, that's impossible) possible...

No credit for this comic book panel of a Farfetch'd attacking an Onix

You see, since your attack power never improves when trapped at Level 1 forever, you would expect that you'd only be doing one damage(or doing no damage at all) even against normal enemies once you reach a certain point in the game. And you'd be right: That 12 points of damage might down a Shadow, but it wouldn't nick an Invisible at the End of the World, if you survived by some miracle to get that far. Therefore, if equipped with EXP Zero, Sora's summon spells would be counted as a finisher and do triple their damage.

This sort of thing makes Simba, Genie and Mushu very powerful and key strats in speedruns like the ones by the famous Bizkits(Bl00dyBizkit and Bizkit417) who have become KH Speedster experts and gained minor celebrity status. ;)

HOWEVER, forget Sora, what about Aqua? Why is she so frikkin' powerful?

Well, there are no summons in Birth by Sleep, but there are D-Links(which give summon-like commands by replacing your commands with a set list and give you finishers) and Command Styles which have finishers as well.

Peter Pan was amazingly broken as a summon in KH2 due to EXP Zero Damage Storage and his D-Link is just as bad... his Swordbill finisher shaves off three bars of health in EXP Zero Damage Storage mode, which is why it's the mandatory strategy against Braig in the Aqua Level 1 run. The boys could use damage storage Swordbill*, but since Peter Pan D-Link is only available when the only bosses left to use it on are the final bosses, few people think to use it against Xehanort or Vanitas due to their unpredictable RNG. Braig, however, is very easy to predict.)

* D-Links have two switchable forms; Swordbill only appears if Peter Pan is in the initial form, shown by his face. If Tinkerbell's face is in the circle, you're in the advanced form which has a completely different(and one hit only) finisher and the trick won't work.

However... Aqua also has a command style... the VERY FIRST ONE SHE GETS, Spellweaver, and its effect is simple...

Take Chun-Li's Lightning Kick and turn it into a magical tornado! Yep, it stun-locks the enemy for ten hits, which means... EXP Zero Damage Storage + Spellweaver finisher...

Ten bars of health decimated. No boss can survive that, not even the final Venitas!

Can the boys do that?

Not my picture either. I wish I could draw as good as this. :(
NOPE.

All of Ventus's and Terra's command styles usually do one hit. Only Terra's opening up to the darkness command style with its finisher(that looks like Vanitas's desperation move) could come closer and its easy to escape that attack. It's almost impossible for a boss to escape Spellweaver!

To be honest and fair, the reason Aqua is so OP as a Level 1 scrub is due to the programmers and developers not planning out EXP Zero's buffs well enough for all of the games. Aqua is not Sora - she doesn't have to rely on Summons(except for maybe the Peter Pan D-Link for Braig) and therefore not bound to the same rules as Sora. If they had balanced out Spellweaver in the Final Mix(making it and Swordbill only hit five times) or EXP Zero Damage Storage(to scale with the enemies so you'd be doing the same damage to any enemy regardless of your level), then things might have been a bit more interesting and Ventus and Terra wouldn't be shunned so badly.

Before you start going on and being a "well, you shouldn't watch the speedrun if you hate it!" counter-rant, let me just say this: I love Aqua, she is my favorite character before I even started watching speedruns of Birth By Sleep, because I adore female characters. I am a guy but have long ago desensitized myself to sexual arousal, or I keep my hormones in control. I don't like Aqua because she's sexy(to be fair, if she had been fat or a little ugly, I wouldn't have minded, but you know Japanese female characters - super-sexy or sex change them!) but because I want more females to be represented in fiction as heroes.

Maybe all of my past lives have been as women, I dunno. But all in all, I like Aqua as a character - I'm just a little upset that in the speedrun community on this game, only one character gets any respect in the Critical Mode category; if I surveyed the community, they'd say "Ventus and Terra can only be spedrun in Beginner mode!" (Well, I did see a non-commentary Crit mode Ventus run which spammed Mini, so there is hope.)

Why not do a speedrun of my own, you ask? Because... I don't want to speedrun. That's the sad truth - I am so lazy I refuse to rush through a game, even if I have played through a game's story once. The only game I have ever sped through is Persona 4 Golden because it has a skip function. (I do skip cutscenes in games if I've seen them before but I don't rush through every part of a game.)

With that rant out of the way, expect more interesting updates: I've already gotten to 1/3 of the two Ratchet and Clank games I am playing for the Summer Backlog event and thus their first milestone. Ciao for now, everyone! ^_^

Summer Backlog: Month of June

So right now I have gotten this far with my five games for the Summer Backlog challenge. (I created the banners.)

4% (No trophy progress)
5% (No trophy progress)
4% (Started the game and got to Chapter 3)
16% (Got several trophies and reached the halfway point in the game)
34% (Unlocked the endgame, got a ton of trophies)
The plan is to get 1/3 of the trophies for each game this month, another third in July, and the last third in August. So far, only Ratchet and Clank(The Game of the Movie of the Game) has hit that first milestone but the Up Your Arsenal game will get there eventually. The others are a bit difficult to work on as they are RPGs, but now that my KI games have run out of pre-paid time and I had to get rid of Maplestory(again), I have more time to not only work on these games, but try to platinum the games which are close to the platinum...

I'm looking at YOU, Persona 4 Golden. X(
